Um The Band

The Band, eine legendäre kanadisch-US-amerikanische Rockgruppe, prägte in den 1960er und 1970er Jahren die Musiklandschaft mit ihrem einzigartigen Mix aus Country, Folk, Blues und Rock. Gegründet 1967 in Toronto, bestand die Band aus den kanadischen Musikern Rick Danko, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel und Robbie Robertson sowie dem US-Amerikaner Levon Helm. Ursprünglich als Begleitband von Bob Dylan bekannt, veröffentlichten sie ab 1968 eigene Alben, die bis heute als Klassiker der Rockmusik gelten. Hits wie "The Weight", "Up on Cripple Creek" und "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" sind zeitlose Meisterwerke, die die ländliche Lebensart der USA einfingen. Ihr berühmtes Abschiedskonzert 1976 in San Francisco, bei dem zahlreiche Stars der Musikszene auftraten, wurde von Martin Scorsese gefilmt und ist ein Meilenstein in der Rockgeschichte.
