Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, geboren am 3. Februar 1809, war ein deutscher Komponist, Pianist und Dirigent von unermesslichem Talent und Einfluss. Als einer der produktivsten Komponisten der Romantik hinterließ er über 750 überlieferte Werke, die die Genres Kammermusik, klassische Klaviermusik und Chormusik bereichern. Mendelssohns musikalische Reise begann früh: Bereits mit elf Jahren komponierte er sein erstes Singspielfragment. Seine umfassende musikalische Ausbildung und enge Freundschaft zu Persönlichkeiten wie Alexander von Humboldt prägten seinen einzigartigen Stil. Als Dirigent des Leipziger Gewandhausorchesters und Gründer des ersten deutschen Konservatoriums in Leipzig revolutionierte er die Musikerausbildung und setzte Maßstäbe für zukünftige Generationen. Mendelssohns Werke sind nicht nur musikalische Meisterwerke, sondern auch Zeugnisse seiner Reisen und Erfahrungen, die er in seine Kompositionen einfließen ließ.
